A somatic approach to yoga can help us to embrace our practice in a way that is unique to us, so we become more aware of what we need in the present moment.
Sometimes somatics is about being minimal and slow in how we move, at other times we need encouragement to expand our comfort zone differently; this might mean lively, varied and strong movement.
Somatic Yoga is subtle, yet powerful in that it draws our attention to how we habitually move, and then offers us choices to explore new pathways. It can encourage us to be more playful and tap into our creative potential, and it can equally help us to become physically and mentally stronger, more adaptable and more resilient.
Attention will also be given to somatic touch, to how can we give and receive whilst respecting individual choices and continuously expand our movement patterns.
The workshop has a strong practical base, much of which can be integrated into your yoga practice and teaching. The work is supported by reference to recent research in neuroscience and myofascial approaches.
You will receive detailed hand-outs and links to research, further viewing, listening and reading.
Suitable for all, teachers, trainees and interested practitioners.
