Our next Open Stage/Open Circle will be on Thursday, 1/22 (the 4th Thursday, as usual), starting at 7:30pm. If you want to get on the Open Stage list, please try to come by 7:15. Doors open at 7:00; feel free to bring some dinner with you (no alcohol please).
The Open Stage is a chance to perform on a stage with a sound system (a maximum of 2 songs/poems/stories/pieces, and a maximum total time of 10 minutes, including intros/talking, setup, and clearing off the stage). It starts at 7:30, and lasts about an hour and a half. The Folk Factory's motto is "music and progressive social change", but "open" means "open", so anything is possible!
For this People's Choice Open Stage, the audience will get to vote on the performers, and the top vote-getters will be invited to participate in our People's Choice Concert in June.
After we take a break, the more informal Open Circle starts. We form a circle and go around, giving everyone a chance to sing/perform a song/poem/story/etc. For your turn, you can also request someone else to do a song, ask if anyone can lead a certain song, take a rain check (to have more time to think of something), or pass. People tend to do participatory songs (where others can sing or play percussion or whatever), but it's also a supportive environment for trying out a new song, and non-participatory songs are fine too (just say so if you prefer people to not participate).
The requested donation (in person) is $2-5, sliding scale - whatever you can afford is gratefully accepted. We will have snacks and beverages, for a voluntary donation.
