This is Dr. Margot Rejskind’s large SATB choir. It rehearses on Tuesday evenings (7:00 - 8:30) at the Kirk of St. James (Pownal at Fitzroy) in Charlottetown.
Members are mostly for-the-love-of-it singers with a wide range of musical knowledge and skill levels. But with Margot’s leadership, the product is strong in quality. This is the choir which has impressed audiences with major classics — Vivaldi’s Gloria, Fauré’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Bach’s Magnificat, the Verdi Requiem, and most recently Messiah and Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: a Mass for Peace. But it’s not all heavy stuff: Margot has a flair for imaginative programming, and the concerts are designed to entertain the general audience.
For the first term of the 2025/26 season, the choir will prepare Conrad Susa's Carols and Lullabies, based on traditional Spanish and Spanish-American pieces, along with other ancient and modern carols. The concert will be on Saturday afternoon, December 6th.
The spring concert will be on April 26th, featuring a major classical work performed jointly with the professional Luminos Ensemble and Luminos Chamber Orchestra.
There is no audition to join the Island Choral Society. Past choral singing experience is recommended, but not necessary.
