The Last Five Years, the acclaimed musical recently seen on Broadway and adapted into a film starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan, will take the stage at Gage Hall September 5β7, 2025, for a limited four-performance engagement.
Known for its cozy charm and the beloved "Coffeehouse Concerts" series, Gage Hall offers the perfect intimate setting for this powerful two-person production.
With music and lyrics by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, The Last Five Years is inspired in part by Brownβs own life and chronicles the five-year relationship of Cathy and Jamie. The story is told in a uniquely compelling way, with Cathyβs perspective unfolding in reverse chronological order while Jamieβs moves forward in time. The result is a deeply personal and emotionally stirring portrait underscored by Brownβs virtuosic score.
This Charleston production features a five-piece band and stars Joshua Broome and Elizabeth Hoyland.
Broome, a longtime fan of the show, shares:
βThe music is poignant and the story is timeless. The struggles of two creative people trying to build a life together. It's hard, it's heavy, but most of all, itβs beautiful and moving. Being in love with a creative personality is tough. Weβre busy, we have dreams, and this production puts all of that on display.β
Hoyland, returning to the Charleston theater scene after years performing in Washington, DC, shares:
βI vividly remember the first time I listened to the original Broadway recording. The music moved me to tears. This show reveals the most vulnerable sides of being human, but itβs also full of wit and humor. Iβm honored to bring Cathy to life.β
