This year we will be doing a weekday trip from Tuesday Oct 7 – Thursday Oct 9.
Tuesday will be the travel day, then Wednesday we will walk Historic Charleston in the morning and then Ravenel Bridge which offers terrific views of Charleston, Fort Sumter and the Harbor in the afternoon. On Thursday morning we will walk the beautiful Magnolia Plantation and gardens, then travel home in the afternoon. Of course, some of you may want to add a day or two to the trip to enjoy a few of the many attractions in the Charleston area.
The Magnolia Plantation walk requires an admission ticket (about $30). Those of you who have a membership to the NC Arboretum in Asheville can show your membership card and be admitted to Magnolia Plantation at no cost, so remember to bring your Arboretum membership card. Another benefit of belonging to the Arboretum.
We haven’t worked out all the details yet, but we expect to have a group dinner on Wednesday night. It’s really a fun trip and driving time is only about 4 ½ hours.
Many of us stay in one of the many hotels in Mount Pleasant, just across the Ravenel Bridge from downtown Charleston. Generally, all of these places in Mount Pleasant are convenient and close to shopping and many good restaurants as well as easy access to Historic Charleston. Below are some “examples” of rates for 1 room with 2 occupants. Be aware there will be taxes and fees amounting to around 12% added to these basic rates.
