Auditions!! A Christmas Carol: Scrooge & Marley

Charles Dickens’ classic story of how the miserly old Ebenezer Scrooge is transformed into a charitable soul when he is visited one cold Christmas Eve by his former partner Jacob Marley and three different apparitions. Written by Charles Dickens in December 1843, this haunting ghost story teaches old Scrooge, and in turn each of us, the importance of family, charity, and friendship. Bah Humbug!!
Although this is not a musical, we are asking everyone to be prepared to sing a traditional Christmas carol. Auditions will include readings from the script and you singing your Christmas carol a cappella (without accompaniment).
Roles, with approximate ages:
Jacob Marley (age 40+) - Scrooge’s former business partner, now a ghost
Ebenezer Scrooge (age 40+) - Grumpy and unsympathetic until he realizes how terrible he has become
Bob Cratchit (age 25-50) - A father and husband who cares deeply for his family. Works hard to provide for them
Fred (age 25-50) - Scrooge’s nephew and only living relative. A pleasant young man who believes in the joy of the Christmas spirit
Two Do-Gooders (age 25-80)
The Ghost of Christmas Past (age 30+)
Little Boy Scrooge (age 10+)
Young Man Scrooge (age 16+)
Fan, Ebenezer’s sister (age 10+)
The Schoolmaster (age 30+)
School Mates (age 10+)
Fezziwig (age 35+)
Mrs. Fezziwig (age 35+)
Dick (age 16+)
The Ghost of Christmas Present (age 30+)
Mrs. Cratchit (similar in age to Bob Cratchit)
Belinda Cratchit (age 12+)
Martha Cratchit (age 16+)
Peter Cratchit (age 12+)
Tiny Tim (age 8-12)
Fred’s wife (similar in age to Fred)
The Ghost of Christmas Future (any age)
A Charwoman (age 25-80)
Mrs. Dilber (age 25-80)
Joe, a secondhand goods dealer (age 25-90)
Adam a young boy (age 10+)
And several more ensemble role and carolers (age 8 to 90)
Performers in the ensemble may play one or more of the roles listed above.
We leave open the option to double-cast (two actors sharing one role) when it seems appropriate.
