Η τεχνική σύγχρονου χορού Martha Graham είναι η πρώτη τεχνική σύγχρονου χορού και δημιουργήθηκε από την ίδια στις αρχές του 20ου αιώνα με σκοπό να περάσει μέσα από το έργο της η ενέργεια του ζωντανού κόσμου. Εφηύρε μια νέα κινησιολογική γλώσσα και τη χρησιμοποίησε για να εκφράσει το πάθος, την οργή, την έκσταση, αισθήματα συνυφασμένα με την ανθρώπινη κατάσταση.
Η τεχνική αναπτύχθηκε μέσα από ατελείωτους πειραματισμούς σε βασικές ανθρώπινες κινήσεις και τη θεμελίωσε στη διαρκή εναλλαγή της σύσφιξης (contruction) και χαλάρωσης (release)σε απόλυτο συνδυασμό με την εκπνοή και την εισπνοή. Πάνω σε αυτή τη βάση στήριξε ένα ολόκληρο λεξιλόγιο κινήσεων και δόμησε ένα μάθημα που αποτελείται από ασκήσεις πατώματος, κέντρου και μετακίνησης στο χώρο μέσα από τις οποίες οι χορευτές κινούνται δίνοντας οντότητα και στις 3 διαστάσεις. Μέσα από κινήσεις αιχμηρές, γωνιώδεις, κοφτές, άμεσες με βάθος και εσωτερικότητα και με συνεχή εξάσκηση στη τεχνική, ο χορευτής καταφέρνει να δυναμώσει το σώμα του, να το διαμορφώσει, να το πειθαρχήσει ενώ παράλληλα καταφέρνει να βρει την ελευθερία έκφρασης μέσα από την απόλυτη φόρμα.
Σύντομο Βιογραφικό:
Η Όλια Τορναρίτου είναι αριστούχος απόφοιτος της Ανώτερης Επαγγελματικής Σχολής Χορού της Άννας Πέτροβα και απόφοιτος του Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance της Νέας Υόρκης. Στην Νέα Υόρκη υπήρξε μέλος του Analysis Dance Company της Βάλιας Αλεξανδράτου από το 1996 μέχρι το 2000 ενώ το 1999 επιλέχθηκε να χορέψει με το Martha Graham Dance Company στην αναβίωση του επιδραστικού έργου της Graham, Panorama (1936), σε διδασκαλία της Yuriko Kikuchi σε σειρά παραστάσεων στο ιστορικό Joyce Theatre της Νέας Υόρκης.
Από τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2000 διδάσκει στην Κρατική Σχολή Ορχηστικής Τέχνης την τεχνική της Martha Graham στο Επαγγελματικό, Προπαρασκευαστικό και Προεπαγγελματικό τμήμα της σχολής. Είναι υπεύθυνη προβών της Hellenic Dance Company, της ομάδας χορού της σχολής, σε παραγωγές που γίνονται στην Ελλάδα και στο εξωτερικό (Βρυξέλλες, Παρίσι και Νέα Υόρκη). Από το 2013 χορογραφεί για τους τελειόφοιτους σπουδαστές της Κρατικής σχολής Demo της τεχνικής Martha Graham στα πλαίσια της τελικής τους παράστασης στο Black Box Theatre της σχολής. Το demo της επιλέχθηκε και παρουσιάστηκε σε όλα τα μουσικά και καλλιτεχνικά σχολεία της Αττικής στα πλαίσια ευρωπαϊκού προγράμματος ΕΣΠΑ «Ο χορός στην θεωρία και πράξη» για 3 χρόνια. Από τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2019 αποτελεί μέλος και του διδακτικού προσωπικού της επαγγελματικής σχολής της Εθνικής Λυρικής Σκηνής όπου διδάσκει την τεχνική της Martha Graham. Το Demo της τεχνικής Martha Graham παρουσιάζεται από τους σπουδαστές της Εθνικής Λυρικής Σκηνής, στα πλαίσια της τελικής τους παράστασης, στην κεντρική σκηνή του Ιδρύματος Σταύρος Νιάρχος.
Από το 2000 μέχρι και σήμερα έχει διδάξει την τεχνική της Martha Graham στο κέντρο μελέτης χορού Ισιδώρας και Ραυμόνδου Ντάνκαν, στα εκπαιδευτήρια ΙΕΚ ΑΚΜΗ και ΑΞΙΑ, στο Studio Μέτσης, στην Δημοτική Σχολή Χορού Λεμεσού, στο Φεστιβάλ Χορού ΑΚΡΟΠΟΔΗΤΙ (στην Σύρο) αλλά και στις ανώτερες επαγγελματικές σχολές της Μάρι Χατζημιχάλη, Ραλλού Μάνου, στο Studio DAN.C.CE (Dance Cultural Centre) στις οποίες διδάσκει μέχρι και σήμερα και συνεργάζεται σε μόνιμη βάση με σεμιναριακούς κύκλους με τη σχολή της Κλαίρης Γιουβανάκη (Ηράκλειο Κρήτης), το studio της Σοφίας Φαλιέρου «Συν-Κίνηση» (Χανιά Κρήτης) και την σχολή της Ανδριανής Μαρούλη Παλμός (Ζάκυνθος). Ταυτόχρονα συμμετέχει σε πολλά σεμινάρια με ερασιτεχνικές σχολές χορού στην Αθήνα και σε όλη την επικράτεια για προώθηση της τεχνικής Graham. Έχει επίσης δώσει σεμινάρια σε διάφορες σχολές στην Κύπρο. Από το 2014 διδάσκει ανελλιπώς στο DANCE DAYS CHANIA. Το 2002 και το 2012 διορίστηκε από το Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού μέλος της επιτροπής των διπλωματικών εξετάσεων των ιδιωτικών επαγγελματικών σχολών χορού στην Ελλάδα για το σύγχρονο χορό και το 2006 διορίστηκε από το τμήμα Θεάτρου και Χορού του Υπουργείου Πολιτισμού αντιπρόεδρος της επιτροπής επιχορηγήσεων των ελληνικών ομάδων χορού. Τον Μάιο του 2022 της απονεμήθηκε από τον Σύνδεσμο Χορού Κύπρου και τον Δήμο Λεμεσού το βραβείο Λίλης Χούρη για την συνολική προσφορά της στον έντεχνο χορό στην Ελλάδα και στην Κύπρο.

Martha Graham's dance technique is the first contemporary dance technique which was created by her in the early 20th century in order to pass through her work the energy of the living world. She invented a new language of kinesiology and employed it to express passion, rage, ecstasy, feelings wedded in the human condition.
The technique was developed through endless experimentation in basic human movements and was founded on the constant rotation of contraction and release in absolute combination with exhalation and inhalation. On this basis, a complete movement vocabulary is supported and a lesson is structured consisting of floor, center and movement exercises in space through which the dancers move, giving entity to all three dimensions. Through sharp, angular, staccato, direct movements with depth and inwardness and with continuous practice the dancer manages to strengthen his body, shape it, and discipline it while managing to find freedom of expression through the ultimate form.
Short Bio:
Olia Tornaritou is a graduate with honors, from Anna Petrova Professional Dance School in Athens, Greece and the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in New York.
In New York she was a member of Analysis Dance Company, dancing form 1996 to 2000. In 1999 she was selected to perform with the Martha Graham Dance Company the revival of Panorama, Graham’s iconic choreography, under the direction of the legendary Yuriko Kikuchi at the Joyce Theater performances.
She is a senior faculty member at The National School of dance teaching from 2000 until today the Martha Graham technique at the school’s professional, and pre-professional division. She was the Rehearsal Director at the Hellenic Dance Company from 2000-2018 in productions which took place in Greece and abroad (Brussels, Paris and New York City). From 2013 till 2018 was choreographing yearly a demo of the Graham technique for the graduating students of the Professional division’s Annual Black Box Performance. In 2019 her demo was selected and presented at all Art and Music High Schools in the Attica region for three consecutive years, implementing the European Union’s Cultural Program “Dance in theory and practice”.
From September 2019 until today is a faculty member at the Greek National Opera’s Professional Dance School, teaching the Martha Graham technique. Her Graham technique demo choreography for the School’s students is presented at the Annual Performance at the Stavros Niarchos Hall, the main stage at the Greek National Opera.
From 2000 until today is a faculty member, teaching the Graham technique at the Duncan Dance Research Center, AKMI and AXIA Vocational Training Institutes, Studio Metsis, Limassol Municipal Dance School, Akropoditi Dance Festival, DAN.CE Studio as well as the Mari Chatzimichali Professiona Dance School and Rallou Manou Professional Dance School. She is collaborating in permanent basis, teaching annually workshops at the Claire Giouvanaki Dance School (Heraklion, Crete), the Syn-Kinisi studio (Chania, Crete) and Palmos Dance School in Zante. She is teaching workshops consistently in various dance schools, in Athens, all Greek regions and Cyprus in order to promote the Graham technique. The years 2014-2020 was teaching continuously at the Dance Days Festival in Chania, Crete.
In 2002 and 2012 was appointed by the Ministry of Culture as a member of the Examining Board for the Diploma Exams of the Professional Dance Schools in the contemporary dance field. In 2006 she was appointed by the Theater and Dance Department of the Ministry of Culture as Vice-president of the Board regarding the Greek dance companies’ grants. In May 2022 was honored by the Cyprus Dance Association and the Municipality of Limassol with the “Lilli Chouri” lifetime achievement Award for her total contribution in the art of Dance in Greece and Cyprus.
