Why do heartbreaks hurt so much—and why do they always feel like our fault?

What if heartbreak isn’t a personal failure, but a design flaw in how modern love itself is built?

In this soulful and provocative talk, Professor Stavroula Tsirogianni, a social psychologist and educator who has taught at the London School of Economics, King’s College London, and CUHK (Shenzhen), invites us to explore the cultural blueprints that make intimacy both beautiful and painful. Drawing from social psychology, philosophy, and the history of love, she unpacks how ideas like “romantic destiny” and today’s swiping culture have wired us for disappointment—and how understanding this gives us back agency.

This isn’t a talk about despair. It’s a roadmap for renewal.

We’ll explore how recognizing heartbreak as a social phenomenon—rooted in structures of gender, power, and modern capitalism—can open the door to re-imagining intimacy as an act of creativity, care, and community.

Professor Tsirogianni’s transdisciplinary work blends social psychology, leadership studies, and cultural theory to examine how our inner lives mirror the societies we inhabit. Her teaching philosophy is anchored in collective reflection—helping students and audiences alike confront uncomfortable truths with curiosity and hope.

Join us for an evening that blurs the lines between lecture, therapy, and storytelling. Bring your curiosity, your heartbreaks, and your favorite drink. 🍷
