Welcome to Salmon Watch!
Your students will explore local rivers, investigate aquatic ecosystems, and witness the incredible life cycle of salmon firsthand. This is hands-on learning in the wild, guided by expert naturalists, and is best suited for upper elementary and middle school students (ages 9β14).
About the Program
Salmon Watch focuses on salmon and freshwater ecosystems. Thanks to funding from local communities, the Jackson Soil and Water Conservation District (JSWCD), and ongoing support from local partners and agencies, field trips are provided at no cost to local schools.
Capacity & Registration
Reserve ONE ticket per class (maximum 30 students per class). Each class date can accommodate up to 60 students, and we often welcome classes from more than one school. If any of the following apply, please contact us directly to arrange possible dates and activities β do not register through Eventbrite:
Schedule & Timing
Field trips run approximately 4 hours (including a lunch break), starting no earlier than 9:00 AM and ending no later than 2:00 PM. Some flexibility is available if needed β please plan for travel time.
Students will rotate through four stations β Salmon Biology, Riparian Ecology, Water Quality, and Macroinvertebrates β with a break for lunch. Each trip is organized into four groups of about 15 students. Since two classes attend each field trip, please divide your class into two groups of roughly 15 students each before arriving so we can start the day smoothly with all four groups ready to go.
