Put your engineering skills to the test at our Cardboard Boat Regatta! Build a boat using only cardboard and tape, then see if it can float as you race across the water. Will your boat sink or sail? There's only one way to find out!
Boat Construction:
-Boats and paddles must be made PRIOR TO THE
RACE and be submitted for inspection.
-The boat’s hull must be made ONLY of corrugated
cardboard and sealed with duct tape, caulk, or Glue.
boats may be painted, (we encourage fun
designs/themes/costumes!). NO reinforced cardboard
tubes, only broken-down cardboard boxes.
-If any illegal items used in construction are
discovered during the pre-race inspection, the boat
will be disqualified.
-Boats must be propelled by the use of cardboard
paddles. Paddles must meet the same construction
requirements as the boats.
-The boat’s passenger area must not be enclosed
above the occupant’s shoulders so as to interfere
with escape should the vessel begin to sink.
-Boat design is left to the builders!
Race Day:
-The first wave of racers will launch at approximately 2 PM.
-Completed boats must be staged in the designated
shoreline staging area by 11 AM for the pre-race inspection.
-All competitors must attend the pre-race safety meeting
held at the start line at 1:30 PM.
-Boaters will have a pre-launch warning at 3 minutes and at
1 minute to the start of a wave.
-Boats may have an unlimited amount of passengers, though
all passengers must be seated within the boat, (no pushing
or dragging the vessel.) Teams are allowed to employ the
assistance of TWO (2) additional people at the start line to
assist with boat launch.
-The race is open to all ages, but all competitors must wear
a PFD. Please use your best judgment as to your child’s
paddling capabilities. Last minute race day lineup
adjustments are allowed.
-Park staff will be positioned in the water to help assist
boaters in distress.
-Beach start and finish. The race will consist of two points
to navigate around. Head toward first designated buoy,
second designated buoy, and return to shore.
