Celebrating the “Dean of Cebuano Painters,” this curatorial talk examines the pivotal role of Martino Abellana in shaping the trajectory of Cebu’s art. In this talk, Tubô Art Fair Curator, Jay Nathan Jore, traces how his realist and academic traditions provided both a foundation and a point of departure for succeeding generations of artists.

By exploring the continuities, revisions, and critiques of Abellana’s legacy, the talk highlights the historical roots that continue to nourish the flourishing of Cebuano contemporary art.
