Interested in starting your own Homegrown National Park? At this upcoming talk with founder and acclaimed author Douglas Tallamy, learn about the grassroots movement and how small changes made by many people can have a measurable impact on local ecosystems.
This talk will focus on strategies for land care specific to Columbia County and ways, big and small, that individuals can get involved. Specific strategies will include planting natives, creating habitats for the species we love, and ensuring forests are resilient to future threats, such as climate change.
This program was made possible thanks to the generous support of Arthur’s Point Farm and New Leaf Eco Landscapes.
About Homegrown National Park:
Homegrown National Park (HNP) is a non-profit organization that raises awareness and urgently inspires everyone to address the biodiversity crisis by adding native plants and removing invasive ones where we live, work, learn, pray, and play.
The goal of HNP is to create a national movement to restore 20 million acres with natives, an area representing half of what is now in lawn, as well as millions more acres in agriculture and woodlots. Recognizing that we are at a critical point of losing many native plant and animal species, HNP calls for many people to make small changes to restore healthy ecological networks and weather the changes ahead.
What to expect: This event will occur in person on the Columbia-Greene Community College campus in the Arts Center. Participants are encouraged to use Parking Lot A and B.
