About the Moon Festival:
The Moon Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, is a cherished celebration that brings families together across East and Southeast Asia. Rooted in ancient traditions of moon worship and harvest celebrations, this festival occurs on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month when the moon is at its brightest and fullest. It is a time for reunion and thanksgiving. Families gather for elaborate dinners, sharing stories and enjoying the luminous moonlight. This deep cultural significance makes it one of the most important holidays after the Lunar New Year, symbolising unity and completeness.
Central to the celebration are several key traditions, most notably the sharing of mooncakes. These dense, round pastries are often filled with lotus seed or red bean paste and contain a salted duck egg yolk to represent the full moon. People exchange mooncakes as symbols of good wishes and family togetherness. Another enchanting tradition is the lighting and displaying of lanterns.
