Experience Contemporary (Myth and Storytelling) is a group exhibition of paintings sculptures and printed materials featuring four contemporary Florida artists curated by Justin Luper.
The exhibit will open on Saturday August 30 at 6PM and will remain on view through November 21.
Casselberry Arts Center is proud to present some of Florida's most exciting artists in this year's iteration of Experience Contemporary (Myth and Storytelling). The exhibition explores our mind’s unique need to tell stories and create meaning.
Visible in the artwork of Boy Kong Libbi Ponce Tom Rosenow and Emily Martinez are elements of storytelling and myth. The use of archetypal themes symbols historical references and even the direct artistic process can be seen as referencing the ways in which we deliver our stories. The interaction of these different artworks generates unexpected connections and information gaps that provoke our natural urge to tell stories and extract meaning.
Myth making and storytelling are the tools used to interpret our world build culture and connect with others. The symbols and characters found in stories and myths have profound impacts on our collective and individual psyche our belief systems our practices and our every day lives. This collection of work contains new characters objects narratives and symbols that come directly from each artist's personal experiences and interests. Although the work may come from personal places the beauty of myth and storytelling comes from it's ability to connect people across cultures and throughout time with its use of archetypal elements that convey universal themes.
