Join us to celebrate local historian Dr David Hume’s latest book, Historic Days in East Antrim which highlights an event for each day of the year, from major events to those that have, until now, been forgotten. The book journeys around East Antrim, from Carrickfergus to Carnlough, Ballycarry to Ballyclare, and all points between. It is a fascinating collection of historical material and the result of years of research.
Dr. David Hume is a broadcaster and local history author who was born in Carrickfergus and started writing for the Carrickfergus Advertiser in the 1980s. He was a news reporter for the Larne Times for 15 years before taking up the challenging and rewarding post as Director of Services of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland and helping to develop the Museum of Orange Heritage. He works in local government and is probably best known as 'the Short' in the BBC NI television history series 'The Long and the Short of it', presenting along with his good friend Tim McGarry. The third series of the popular programme is currently being filmed. Historic Days in East Antrim is his 11th published book.
The evening will be introduced by Adrian Hack. Adrian does not claim to be a historian, but rather a local fella who loves local history. He is passionate about the heritage of his home town of Carrickfergus, and a proud advocate for anything which engages people in the town's story through the centuries, or promotes the area as a tourist destination.
With so much history still to be understood and shared, he's delighted that a 'proper' historian is launching a book which will shed a little more light on the town, and wider East Antrim community.
