About the event

The Termination of USAID: What’s at Stake for Global Relief and Local Impact
Since 1961, the U.S. Agency for International Development has saved countless lives and strengthened communities around the world with programs focused on hunger, poverty, disease, and education. The loss of U.S. foreign aid opens the door to needless suffering for some of the most vulnerable people in the world.

Join us for an evening of connection, storytelling, and dialogue as we explore what this means for our global community. Hear firsthand from those most affected by USAID, then engage with distinguished panelists as they discuss the humanitarian benefits of USAID, the impacts of its loss, and what happens next.

Evening schedule:
-6:00 – 7:00 PM | Enjoy food and connect in community
-7:15 – 7:45 PM | Firsthand stories on the impact of cuts to USAID
-7:45 – 8:30 PM | Expert panel discussion
-8:30 – 9:00 PM | Audience Q&A and conversation

Featuring panelists:

-John Prendergast, Co-Founder with George Clooney of The Sentry; Former Special Advisor to Secretary Susan Rice on African Security Issues

-Nyakan John Gile, Founder and CEO of South Sudan Women United; Recipient of the Richard C. Holbrooke Leadership Award from Refugees International

-Colin Thomas-Jensen, Director for Impact, Aurora Humanitarian Initiative; Former Advisor on National Security to the USAID Administrator

Presented by the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall and the Pittsburgh Darfur Emergency Coalition, with partner organizations World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh and ANSAR of Pittsburgh.
