This workshop offers dancers the chance to gain new skills and experience two distinct choreographic approaches through embodied research, improvisation, and shared practice.
1:00 – 2:30 pm — Playing Body
Led by Koraljka Begović
In this class, we work on an amalgam of the playing and playful body. Through intertwining diverse approaches to physical training, from intense conditioning and sensory-motor exercises to flexibility work, we prepare the body for alertness, agility, and responsiveness.
In the second part of the class, improvisational tasks invite participants to question notions of playfulness and play in performance and presence. Working individually and in pairs, we’ll explore touch, weight, and connection — developing readiness for unpredictability, presence through grounding, and embodied relational awareness.
Koraljka Begović is a Croatian choreographer, dancer, and yoga teacher whose work merges physical rigor with somatic awareness and feminist inquiry. A long-standing member of Zagreb’s independent dance scene, she teaches and performs internationally, with a practice centred on presence, play, and embodied research.
3:30 – 5:00 pm — Improvisation and Somatic Practice for Feminist Choreographic Research
Led by Zoë Bastin
Building on Liquid Love’s ongoing themes of resilience, care, and collective vulnerability, Zoë leads participants through feminist research tools that expand movement creation beyond familiar structures. Through improvisation scores, writing, and structured experimentation, participants will cultivate embodied responsiveness, trust, and creative agency within collective composition.
Zoë Bastin is an Australian choreographer, performer, researcher, and educator working at the intersection of contemporary dance, visual art, and critical theory. Their practice explores how bodies are shaped by—and resist—systems of power through queer and feminist methodologies. Zoë completed a PhD at RMIT in 2021 and now lectures and supervises research at RMIT, VCA, and Deakin University. They are the Artistic Director of Zoë Bastin Dance, a company focused on research-led, collaborative performance-making.
Professional and pre-professional dancers of all ages and abilities are welcome to join. Please email Zoë at aGVsbG8gfCB6b2ViYXN0aW4gISBjb20= to dicuss access.
