About the event

AfroVibe: Colour, Culture & Carnival!

Save the date in your diaries for AfroVibe! A joyful takeover day in collaboration with Afrikana CIC that immerses visitors in the vibrant, visual, musical, and cultural tapestry of African and Caribbean heritage.

If you come along, you can enjoy ….

Carnival vibes!

We’re bringing a hint of Carnival to Carlisle with a mix of traditional and modern music, Carnival costume, and dance breakouts.

Creative kids’ zone!

Dancing and cartoons in the morning, and African Batik textile printing all afternoon! Join artists Tina Ramos Enkongo to play with African patterns, learn about how they connect to different tribes, and make your own colourful print!

Children under 12 must be supervised by an adult.

Crafty community!

Craft demonstrations in our community corner including jewellery making, hair braiding and styling.

Artisan stalls!

Stallholders selling products including clothing, gifts, and a big Afrikana raffle.

Guided colour exhibition tours!

Special spotlight tours throughout the day focusing on the meaning of colour – looking at African artefacts and art works by Zanele Muholi, Angélica Dass and Keith Piper.

Full programme released a week prior to the event. Activities subject to change*
