About the event

Women’s “All I Can Be” Conference/Retreat “From Shame to Shine thru GRACE”
Overall Goal:
This conference/retreat aims to empower women to embrace their divine potential, recognize their inherent worth, and move from a place of shame to one of confidence and joy through the transformative power of GRACE. The retreat will address the nature of shame, distinguishing it from healthy guilt and helping participants understand its origins and impact. Sessions would focus on the concept of grace as a divine gift, emphasizing that Christ's Atonement enables forgiveness, healing, and the ability to overcome challenges.

Cardston Women’s “All I Can Be”Conference/Retreat
Theme: “From Shame to Shine thru GRACE”

Concept: There is a difference between guilt and shame. Though they both involve negative emotions, guilt is often seen as a constructive emotion, as it can motivate individuals to make amends or change their behaviour.
Shame is a more intense and pervasive emotion that stems from a belief that one is fundamentally flawed or unworthy. It is often seen as a destructive emotion, as it leads to feelings of worthlessness, low self-esteem, and social withdrawal which can have a significant impact on mental health and well-being, potentially leading to depression, anxiety, and many other debilitating issues and problems.
Through GRACE, we can reject shame and embrace God's love and mercy moving us out of darkness and into His light (illuminating our own light.) We have an inspired line up of coaches, therapists and wellness experts who are going to take us through a process of recognizing shame in ourselves and teach us how to move out of the darkness and into light through grace, offering many tools to use in your healing process.

What to expect when you arrive at the conference:
First… a warm, inviting, greeting from Jen and I (Deb) after which we will show you to your rooms so you can settle in.
Once settled, we will gather together as a group and engage in some icebreaker activities to get to know each other a little bit before we begin the conference.
Then we will begin the conference/retreat with an opening where we will go over the agenda and what we hope to accomplish during the next 3 days, 2 nights.

Day 1: Foundations: Understanding Shame and Building a Safe Place

After the introduction, Jen Bennett will introduce us to the topic of shame and recognizing its presence in our lives using an informative and inspirational slideshow she has created.

Rebecca Burnham will then facilitate a class/workshop on learning to recognize God’s will in our lives as we seek to find our way from Shame to Shine thru GRACE.

After engaging in some retreat experiences, free time and a delicious healthy dinner (gluten free and vegan or vegetarian options) we will gather as a group where Karen Condie shares her personal story of rising out of shame into her beautiful light and facilitates sharing in a loving, safe environment.

Following our group sharing session and before retiring for the night we will enjoy retreat experiences such as sound bath, meditation, journaling and we will also have talented musician Cheryl Davidsen sharing a theme related scripture verse song to memorize from her Scripture Strongholds YouTube collection

Day 2 Healing and Hope-Bringing Gospel Principles and Retreat Experiences Together

After a healthy, empowering morning routine of movement and mindfulness (facilitated by Rachael) and breakfast…
Kym Peavoy will take us on a powerful healing journey which includes self-awareness activity, journaling, affirmations, and visualization to remove self-sabotaging beliefs that often keep us stuck. (During this workshop we will also go through an exercise in identifying through a written inventory, shame based thoughts and beliefs.)

Kerry Tolman, a registered social and family school Liaison Counselor for Westwind school division is going to teach us about how shame is passed on through our parenting (most often unintentionally) and how it affects behaviour patterns in children. She will be drawing from her expertise, offering practical tips on how to reparent and deshame, a positive approach to move through their shame and into the light of who they truly are.

After a healthy, hearty lunch …

Rachael VanHauwaert will continue by helping us become more self-aware through prayer and mediation to know God’s will and have the power to carry it out. Rachael will also teach us practical ways to apply principles taught throughout the conference through various healing modalities such as reframing negative self-talk, healthy boundary setting, meditation, body movement etc.
Following Rachael we will engage in and enjoy retreat experiences and free time until dinner.

After dinner, Crystal Haitsma will be facilitating a group coaching session that will help us in our understanding, acknowledging and rising out of shame.

Following Crystal’s group coaching session, we will enjoy an uplifting and inspirational musical devotional that features a special speaker who will motivate and enlighten us during her 10-15 minute talk.

The evening will end with a special retreat experience (“love notes”.)

Day 3: Arise and Shine/Sharing our Light
The day begins with mindfulness and movement exercises with Rachael and of course a healthy breakfast.

Then we will spend the morning sharing and serving each other during retreat experiences

After a healthy, delicious lunch we will do a Summary/Wrap-up facilitated by Deb Bartok which includes the participants in a group share and discussion etc. Deb will also include a brief and final message emphasizing the importance of continuing in our ongoing journey of hope and healing… to rise up and shine and share our light with others, inviting them to do the same.

This event promises to be 3 days of faith, fellowship, fun, enlightening ah ha moments, good food and entertainment but mostly beautiful and helpful healing as we open up a conversation that is often misunderstood and plagues so many of us.
We hope and pray you will feel the desire to explore this potentially healing agenda together as we each continue on our journey to becoming all we can be.
