Pack your curiosity — we’re heading to one of the coolest hikes in California! Annie’s Canyon Trail near Solana Beach is a can’t-miss mix of ocean air, sandstone walls, and stunning views that make you forget you’re just minutes from the city.
This 4.6-mile out-and-back hike (328 ft elevation gain) winds through the peaceful San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve before funneling into the canyon’s sculpted slot — a natural maze of smooth, narrow walls that feel straight out of an adventure movie. Snap photos, laugh through the tight turns, and take in that salty coastal breeze as you climb ladders and stairs to a sweeping viewpoint of the Pacific.
🐾 Note: Dogs can enjoy the lagoon section but aren’t allowed in the slot canyon itself. Not into squeezing through the narrow walls? No problem — there’s an alternate route to the same beautiful viewpoint.
After the hike, explore downtown Solana Beach for a well-earned coffee or lunch — there are plenty of cozy cafes to choose from. Just coordinate with your carpool driver and fellow passengers!
