Venue tout droit du Texas, The Division Men est un duo singulier et envoûtant formé par J. Spencer Portillo et Caroline Rippy Portillo. Né à Berlin en 2008 avant de repartir s’installer aux États-Unis, ce projet musical de couple mêle avec intensité folk acoustique, rock frontalier et poésie sombre. Leur univers sonore, à la fois romantique, mélancolique et profondément atmosphérique, puise son inspiration dans les grands espaces du sud des États-Unis et les histoires humaines qui s’y entrecroisent.
Basse envoûtante, guitares délicates et harmonies vocales profondes tissent un répertoire aux ambiances cinématographiques, quelque part entre les confins du désert texan et les clubs feutrés de Berlin. Caroline, ancienne bassiste du groupe culte Tito & Tarantula, et Spencer, chanteur-guitariste à la plume sensible, offrent ensemble une musique aussi intime qu’universelle.

Coming straight from Texas, The Division Men is a unique and captivating duo formed by J. Spencer Portillo and Caroline Rippy Portillo. Founded in Berlin in 2008 before returning to the United States, this husband-and-wife project blends acoustic folk, borderland rock, and dark poetry with striking intensity. Their sound, at once romantic, melancholic, and deeply atmospheric, draws inspiration from the vast landscapes of the American Southwest and the human stories that unfold within them.
Enchanting bass lines, delicate guitars, and rich vocal harmonies weave cinematic soundscapes — somewhere between the edges of the Texan desert and the intimate clubs of Berlin. Caroline, former bassist of the cult band Tito & Tarantula, and Spencer, a sensitive singer-songwriter and guitarist, craft music that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant.
With their new album Hymns and Fiery Dances, released in August 2025, The Division Men have established themselves as one of the most compelling independent acts on today’s American music scene.
