For the sweet tooth in us all, our final Somm's Table of the year will focus on the world of Port wines. British merchant families of Cockburn (who were instrumental in rescuing the Touriga Nacional grape from extinction) and Sandeman (a recognized trademark and leader in production) will be used to demonstrate the differences within this vast style of winemaking: Port.
The tasting journey moves from the vibrant, fruity character of a Ruby port, which find harmony with rich dark chocolate and berry dishes, to the mature, mellow complexity of a Tawny port, which are ideal companions for creamy, nutty and caramel-based desserts. Then we enjoy a reserve port followed by a vintage port from the Washington Inn Wine Cellar, perhaps paired with a pungent aged cheese. Not only a dynamic and satisfying conclusion to any meal, but the pairing opportunities are plentiful with the holiday seasons approaching.
These events, hosted by our in-house wine team, are capped at 16 guests and held in our cozy Wine Cellar. A pairing of specially prepared Canapés is provided. The focus is on enjoying a rare, unique wine alongside fellow wine enthusiasts. Featuring four half-glass pours, Somm's Table creates a relaxed, small-group setting to savor and learn about a luxurious aged library wine or a magnum bottle.
