Please read the following information regarding the demonstration that will occur after our meeting. This is part of the RSVP process in order to properly prepare for this event. It will last approximately one hour and will provide great information to all attendees regarding this process.
The Department of the Air Force is partnering with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to conduct a high-fidelity Airborne Electromagnetic (AEM) survey of the Ogallala Aquifer paleo-channel under Cannon AFB. This project uses a combination of monitoring well readings and advanced electromagnetic sensors to create a model of the aquifer, providing a more accurate understanding of current and future groundwater availability. Data will be collected with a helicopter and additional equipment. The demo will provide an opportunity to view the helicopter and equipment up close, as well as watch a demo of data collection. The data provides science-based insights to guide effective water management for both the installation and the region, fostering regional collaboration by openly sharing data through the USGS, ensuring CAFB is a key partner in community-driven water initiatives.
RAPIDS (Resilient Aquifer Planning and Installation Defense Strategy)
The DAF is implementing an innovative partnerships framework to formalize collaboration and drive policy solutions.
-- This framework is designed to build coalitions with local and state stakeholders to reform water governance and protect critical water resources from legal and environmental vulnerabilities
-- It directly evaluates technical and policy solutions to enhance water availability and deny adversaries the ability to influence or exploit vital water resources
-- The effort is designed to produce a scalable and replicable model that can be applied across other DAF installations facing similar water security challenges
Indewater Alternative Water Source
An Alternative Water Source Project is underway to unlock previously unavailable water sources and reduce reliance on the Ogallala Aquifer.
-- This initiative evaluates the feasibility of developing deep, brackish groundwater resources and deploying advanced water re-use technologies
-- It is a direct partnership between the DAF and local hydrogeology experts to identify viable alternative water supplies for mission success
-- The project emphasizes regional collaboration with the cities of Clovis and Portales to ensure data is shared, strengthening water security for the entire community
