Come learn how to design with purpose — and plant with the planet in mind.
Join us for an inspiring and informative session that explores how thoughtful use of native plants and tree care can foster biodiversity and ecological resilience in your landscape design practice. In “Designing with Native Plants and Structure for Biodiversity,” you'll learn how to integrate native plants alongside structural elements like nurse logs and habitat snags—often overlooked arborist byproducts—to create designs that support wildlife, enrich soil health, and promote long-term ecological resilience.
Speakers Emily Booth and Austin Booth of Green Seed Gardens and Nicky Dunbar of Foster Trees bring a unique blend of artistic design, ecological insight, and practical expertise to this conversation.
This event will take place at Green Seed Gardens, a native plant nursery with demonstration gardens. Participants who purchase plants at the nursery will receive wholesale discounts.
Emily Booth, Lead Designer and Planting Supervisor at Green Seed Gardens, has designed hundreds of gardens using native plants and creative combinations grounded in her art and design background. She brings a hands-on approach to garden creation—from patios to rain gardens—centered around beauty and biodiversity.
Austin Booth, Co-Owner and Native Nursery Manager at Green Seed Gardens, holds a B.S. in Natural Resources from Oregon State University. He oversees all aspects of native plant production and propagation at the nursery, with a focus on seed-grown diversity and habitat value. His work emphasizes the ecological importance of plant selection and how thoughtful sourcing can strengthen biodiversity from the roots up.
Nicky Dunbar, certified arborist and owner of Foster Trees, combines her background in ecology education and engineering to offer tree care solutions that go beyond aesthetics. She advocates for preserving wildlife habitat—like creating snags for birds and insects—and emphasizes ecological approaches that make landscapes more climate-resilient.
Whether you're new to native plants or already specialize in ecological design, this class will offer fresh inspiration, practical strategies, and deeper insights to enhance biodiversity in your projects.
