Join us for yet another lively night of poetry, as we host feature performances from Matt Hetherington and Frank Assessment as well as our wonderful open mic.
About the poets:
Matt Hetherington is a writer, music-maker, and idler living on Bundjalung Country in Murwillumbah, NSW. He has been writing poetry seriously for 45 years, and his seventh poetry collection, About Alone Away was published by Walleah Press in December 2024. Poems of his have been included in half a dozen of the Best Australian Poems anthologies since 2004. He has performed his poetry in all parts of Australia other than the Northern Territory, including the Tasmanian Poetry Festival, The Perth Poetry Festival, The Queensland Poetry Festival, and the Melbourne Writers’ Festival. He has translated poetry into Spanish, French, and Turkish (with Hidayet Ceylan), and his own poetry has been translated into Arabic and German. He specializes in short-form poetry. Because he can’t write long ones! Current Inspirations are: the poet-standard black coffee, vinyl played very loud through small black speakers, and slowing down the ol’ breath when needed.
Frank Assessment was born in Verity Lane, out the back of the Blue Moon Café.
Frank is in his mid-30s, as far as his body temperature is concerned.
He loves to read his poems in pairs, hoping that somehow by rubbing them together in this way a poem with better hybrid vigour will emerge.
The WA Poets love him – he was published in their 2023 Poetry d’Amour Anthology and 2024 Ros Spencer Anthology: Brushstrokes V!
He will be reading from his collections, Asymmetrical Love Stories, Drunken Furniture Assembly, Mugga Lane Garbage Dump Mountain, and Mundane Activities for the Modern Age.
To sign up for the open mic, come and see your MC Merri from 6:30pm (max 3 mins on the open mic).
See you there!
