The Kytherian Association of Canberra and Districts warmly invites members and friends to a special evening celebrating Kytherian heritage and storytelling with the Canberra launch of Mythical Kythira by Jacqueline Andronicus.
This beautifully crafted photobook captures the wild beauty of the island and the enduring ties between Kythira and the Kytheriandiaspora in Australia.
Guests will have the opportunity to hear from author Jacqueline Andronicus about the inspiration behind the work and the stories it brings to life.
“Drawn to explore my family’s historic connection to Greece, I travelled to my ancestral homeland of Kythira. As I explored and photographed the ‘wildness’ofKythira, I fell more deeply in love with this mythical island. The purpose of my journey became clear; to tell my grandfather’s story and share my stories and photographs.
My grandfather John Andronicus, migrated from Kythira to Australia in 1908, and it was his lifelong consuming passion for coffee that gave rise to Andronicus Coffee, the empire that introduced Australians to coffee culture. This photobook is for all lovers of Greek culture, and especially for those with an affinity for the island of Kythira. This beautifully crafted treasure is to be shared with family and friends, with its breathtaking photographs and stories weaving together generations of love for ‘The Island of Aphrodite’ in all her mythical wild beauty.”
Please arrive from 5.30pm for light refreshments ahead of a 6pm start.
Books will be available for signing by Jacqueline following a Q&A conversation, with copies available for purchase on the night.
