Join Anne O’Hehir, Curator, Photography, Magda Keaney, Head Curator, International Art, and Shaune Lakin, Senior Curator, Photography, for an introduction to Women Photographers 1853‒2018.
Making photographs has always been an act of resistance for women. Photography has given women access to spaces of knowledge, technological experimentation, and artistic practices often excluded from them. This exhibition of works from the National Gallery collection highlights the ways photography has changed the worlds in which women live, and the ways that women have changed photography.
Anne, Magda and Shaune will highlight works from Women Photographers 1853‒2018 that challenged the status quo and brought about change.
Women Photographers 1853–2018 is now on display at the National Gallery in Level 1, Galleries 2, 3 and 4 until 15 March 2026
