In this series you’ll create a vibrant, mixed media floral artwork using torn paper collage and acrylic paint.
We'll begin by building playful acrylic layers to paint a colourful base, design a floral composition, and add a background on your canvas in preparation for collage. In session two we will explore gelli plate printing to create unique collage papers full of texture, pattern, and colour. In session three your artwork will come to life as you use torn paper collage techniques to build a variety of blooms and foliage, and design and assemble your own one-of-a-kind bouquet on your painted canvas.
Finished examples and collage guides will be available, along with step-by-step instructions and time for questions as they arise, and creativity and experimentation are highly encouraged!
All skill levels welcome. This class is perfect for beginners (no experience required!) as well as artists interested in exploring a new medium.
Please bring a canvas within the size range specified below, but all other materials and supplies are provided.
About your instructor:
Cara Leanne is a mixed-media artist from the Comox Valley known for her bright and cheerful paintings. She is drawn to bold, vibrant colour because it feels like joy made visible. She uses hand-painted, hand-torn collage to create whimsical paintings often inspired by gorgeous flowers, peaceful seascapes, or even quirky chickens.
