About the event

Working Equitation Cow Phase Clinic
The Cattle Trial is based on team penning, where each rider attempts to guide a cow into a pen within a set time limit. It's a core element of Working Equitation, emphasizing teamwork, precision, and the skills developed in Dressage, EOH, and Speed.

Success in the Cattle Trial relies on all the fundamentals: dressage movements, control, agility, and strategic use of speed.

The cow trail emphasises the partnership between horse and rider in a dynamic, real-world challenge.

This clinic uses this practical application to further develop both horse and rider.

Clinic starts with theory on cow working, balance point, flight zone, turning the cow towards, turning the cow away, stopping the cow, moving the cow without it going into flight, moving a herd, separating/cutting a cow out. All of these are then put into practice.

The practical starts with "dry working" for preparing horse and riding.

Starting with a low stress stockmanship approach with some unique activities to show you what is possible as you develop three way communication.

During this weekend we will look at building your horse's confidence with the cattle and develop the yields that you will need to be able to influence the cattle both individually and as a herd.

Working cattle from horseback is a great way to develop yourself and your horse by putting principle to purpose. You'll accelerate your horses development and have fun doing it.

The rules of the Working Equitation Cow Trial, Phase 4, are explained. Everyone gets to have a go. YES, it's a lot of fun!!!

Your instructor, Russell Higgins, has not only worked cattle on ranches in America but has twice traveled to Portugal to study Working Equitation and worked cattle as part of that.

Not suitable for "green broke" horses.

$460 for two days, no addition arena or cattle fee.
Optional third day $200
