Flora, Fauna & Floods
An evening to hear experts talk about the relationship between animals, plants and water management here on the River Teith and surrounding areas.
We will first hear from speakers who will introduce the idea of riverwoods and the importance of tree planting along river banks for water and bank quality, and fish, bird, and insect health. We will then look into proposed planting for the Callander Meadows area, looking specifially at plant choice and position to understand best what trees and shrubs work well and why they are chosen, and how we involve (or keep out) fauna from consuming the trees - beaver and deer are top of the list.
We will also hear about how beavers are changing the environment for the better as nature's architects in order to manage water and increase biodiversity and how this might work in Callander.
Finishing with a short discussion about your own ideas and areas for improvement to slow water, mitigate beaver tree cutting, or indeed to introduce beavers. All flora fauna flooding can be on the table for discussion, we welcome your thoughts on the matter.
