Mainspring is thrilled to announce the Mainspring Arty Block Party, a celebration of the new Mainspring Community Mural by artist Jacqueline VanRavenhorst with live music by Humbird. The Arty Block Party will happen on Saturday, September 20th from 4 - 8 pm at Mainspring; this event is free and open to all.
The Mainspring Arty Block Party will feature a variety of arty festivities, including the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new mural, live music from Humbird, all-levels yoga flow, art vendors, family friendly art activities, food truck, cash bar, and more!
ABOUT THE MAINSPRING COMMUNITY MURAL
Funded through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, the Mainspring Community Mural has been a community-led public art project engaging Houston Country residents through the design process to create a mural on the steeple of Mainspring.
VanRavenhorst has been gathering feedback from community members at various events and will incorporate community feedback into the design of the mural itself. In August, VanRavenhorst will outline the mural design on MDF boards, and invite community members to join her in painting the mural over the course of a week. VanRavenhorst will then finalize overpainting, touch-ups, and sealing of mural before the mural is installed on the steeple prior to the Arty Block Party.
ABOUT HUMBIRD
What better way to celebrate than with the enthusiastic return of Humbird and their third full-length album, "Right On" -- a radical ethos in this soap-box age, and an effort worth turning up the amps for, resulting in the project's most electric, playful, mettled record yet.
Siri Undlin (the songwriter behind the moniker) and her collaborators producer Shane Leonard and regular contributors Pat Keen (bass, synth, percussion) and Pete Quirsfeld (drums and percussion) put forth a mischievously kind offering in "Right On": a whole heap of songs that are unafraid to bask in the perfectly ordinary and also excruciating possibility that sometimes we're right, often we're wrong, but no matter what, music can meet us where we're at and keep us company along the way.
