Opened in 1923, Bedwas Workmen's Hall stands as a testament to the resilience and spirit of the local mining community. It was built using penny-a-week donations from the miners themselves, supplemented by a grant from colliery owner Sir Samuel Instone. This three-storey hub was the heart of the community, housing a public hall, a library, a cinema, a dance hall, and a billiards hall, offering a vital escape from the harsh reality of colliery life.
Now, a century later, this historic venue continues to serve the community, but the echoes of its past residents are said to remain.
Bedwas Workmen's Hall is a location "bursting with activity," where the past refuses to stay buried. Visitors and staff have consistently reported a wide range of unexplained phenomena.
