The next Cabot Community Contra Dance is happening on Friday, October 10, featuring the friendly calling of Don Stratton, and live music by Pam Bockes, Franklin Heyburn, Kenric Kite, and David Van Houten. The dance takes place at the Willey Building (Cabot Town Hall, 3084 Main St), from 7-9:30pm.
Bess O’Brien, the renowned Vermont documentary filmmaker, will be joining us to capture some footage of our dance for her new film "Every Day: Big and Small" which will be a culmination of many people and places across VT that are creating a sense of community, connection, and resilience. And she says “Dancing does that for sure!!” This is your chance to share the joy with people who haven’t experienced contra dancing in action!
Everyone is welcome--you can come alone, or with your whole family! Contra dancing is an age-old Vermont tradition, and helps your physical and mental health to boot! All dances are taught, but if you’ve never been to a dance, you are encouraged to arrive right at 7:00, as we will start with the simplest dances, and then we’ll build upon what you learn throughout the evening. No special footwork is needed, and the dances are easy to pick up.
Admission is on a sliding scale, $5-10 suggested, but nobody is turned away for lack of funds!
