🌸 Susie & Joe: Back Together Again! 🌸
Step into a night where the songs are classics, the harmonies are lush, and the vibe feels like sitting on the porch with old friends.
Susie Crate’s taken quite the ride. In the ’80s and early ’90s she was spinning stories and singing her heart out across the Piedmont. Then she packed her bags and wandered far, way out to Siberia, studying how folks adapt to a changing world. Now she’s back home in Bynum, bringing all that wandering spirit into songs that feel both familiar and brand new.
And Joe Newberry? Well, he and Susie go way back… think Radio Rangers, think Piedmont Hepcats, think good times and great music with friends like Noel Creadik, Carl Jones, Ted Erhard, and Alan Cottrell. Their paths circle back again, and the result is pure joy: songs stitched with memory, laughter, and a whole lot of heart.
Known around the world for his clawhammer banjo playing, Joe Newberry is also a powerful guitarist, singer and songwriter. The Gibson Brothers’ version of his song “Singing As We Rise,” featuring guest vocalist Ricky Skaggs, won an IBMA “Gospel Recorded Performance” Award. With Eric Gibson, he shared an IBMA “Song of the Year” Award for “They Called It Music.” A longtime and frequent guest on A Prairie Home Companion, he was a featured singer on the Transatlantic Sessions 2016 tour of the U.K. with fiddler Aly Bain and Dobro master Jerry Douglas, and at the Transatlantic Session's debut at Merlefest in 2017. In addition to performing solo, he plays in a duo with mandolin icon Mike Compton, and also performs with the dynamic fiddler and step-dancer April Verch.
So come on out. kick back, hum along, and let the music take you back while keeping you right here in the moment. 🌻✨
