Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp to założona w 2006 roku, przez Vincenta Bertholeta, nieustannie ewoluująca „orkiestra”, luźno wzorowana na wielkich afrykańskich zespołach ** wieku, takich jak Tout Puissant Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou, i składająca hołd rewolucyjnemu francuskiemu artyście Marcelowi Duchampowi.

„Ta idea zmieniających się składów jest bardzo ważna w procesie pisania muzyki” – mówi Bertholet.
„Zawsze staram się proponować bardzo proste pomysły, które nie wymagają wielu prób, by je zagrać. Muzyka musi być prosta, tak aby niezależnie od tego, kto jest muzykiem, brzmienie zespołu pozostawało niezmienne. To jedna z kluczowych idei stojących za zespołem i kompozycjami. Jesteśmy siłą kolektywną – jednostki nie są ważne.”

Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp is a constantly evolving “orchestra” founded in 2006 by Vincent Bertholet, loosely inspired by the great 20th-century African bands such as Tout Puissant Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou, and paying tribute to the revolutionary French artist Marcel Duchamp.
The group’s political outlook and vision of radical collectivity were shaped by Geneva’s punk scene and squat culture — the spirit of which still lives on through the record label and shop Les Disques de Bongo Joe.
Vincent Bertholet – who is also a member of the minimalist trance-pop duo Hyperculte – co-founded Bongo Joe together with Cyril Yeterian of Cyril Cyril, although he is no longer involved in the label’s daily operations.
One of Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp’s greatest achievements is their longevity and the way they have managed to preserve the group’s sound and spirit despite constant changes in the line-up.
“This idea of changing line-ups is very important in the process of writing music,” says Bertholet.
“I always try to propose very simple ideas that don’t require too many rehearsals to play. The music must be simple so that, regardless of who the musician is, the sound of the band remains unchanged. It’s one of the key ideas behind the band and its compositions. We are a collective force – individuals are not important.”
