Elizabeth Tritthart of Historic Weaving discovered a hidden gem in the World Museum of Mining—a rich textile collection donated by Butte residents. Among the treasures? Hats. Stylish, expressive, and deeply rooted in Butte’s history. From pioneer bonnets to campaign caps, birthday crowns to holiday flair, Butte’s millinery tradition spans generations.
A meeting with Brian Mogren of Rediscoveries Vintage at the Imagine Butte Resource Center (over a cup of Oro Fino coffee, naturally) sparked a shared passion for fashion, textiles, and storytelling. That spark grew into a full-fledged vision: a summer and fall of workshops, cultural learning, and community creativity, culminating in the Hats Off to Butte Hat Fashion Show on November 8, 2025, at the Foreground Gallery.
Following the show, the Gallery Exhibit will showcase the hats and accessories created and curated throughout the season—on display through November 28 in the historic Phoenix Block Building.
Proceeds from the event will support:
The World Museum of Mining’s Textile Collection
Imagine Butte Resource Center’s Community Print Studio
Materials for “Hats for the Homeless” (2025–2026 winter season)
Seed funding for Hats Off to Butte 2026
This exhibit is more than fashion—it’s a tribute to Butte’s legacy of craftsmanship, community, and personal expression. Come explore the stories stitched into every brim and band.
