Conagh Punch, Lachlan McCulloch, Nyx Ho, Jack Wynne
mRL Highground explores a sci-fi dystopian vision of the modern day.
The efforts of corporations have eroded our ability to connect with each other.
There is no spontaneity. no authenticity. An algorithm can save you the effort of conversation, your responses prewritten. But all it takes is the right action at the right moment,
and a single person can change everything.
oh, and it's a musical.
Interwoven
By Chandan Sharma, Mordred Hibbins and Nicole Melrose
Interwoven is a piece told through 3 monologues, each character separated through time and space but united in their hardship. Our piece reveals stories of fear, power, gender divides, expectations of love, concerns about the future of technology and a joint longing for a sense of connection in the world. The piece is composed of: A Modern-Day Confession Poem-delivered by a working mother trying to exist in a world overrun by technology, mourning the loss of family and connection; A Declaration to the King’s Court-presented by a recently insulted King of England, grappling with the weight of war and the death it brings; and An Audio Recording of a Woman’s Musings-portrayed by a 70’s woman trying to archive a feminist voice regarding love and loss. Each voice in unique in class, time-period, and motivation, however, their desire to be heard - to find connection through their voices leaves them forever Interwoven.

Occupied
By HIJJY Theatre Company
Jezebelle McDonell, Yvette Dixon, Hugo Stevens, Jonas Saw, Imani Francis
Occupied follows five complex individuals, living in a shared house not out of friendship, but necessity. In the chaotic nature of life, the bathroom becomes their only sanctuary, a place to be vulnerable, exposed and truly authentic. Scarlett, Jamie, Noah, Rachel, and Isabelle are adults trying to figure out this game of life, caught between the masks they wear in public and the mirror that reveals their true selves. In a house where privacy is a luxury, how safe and vulnerable can one truly be?
Occupied, grounded in naturalism and realism, aims to demonstrate the harsh realities of young adulthood, conveying the complex relationship dynamics that arise from living in close proximity with others. We demonstrate that things don't always end tied up in a neat little bow, at the end of the day some things never get resolved, some people drift apart, and closure is a privilege not everyone gets.
You’re meant to feel it all. Uncomfortable. Shocked. Mad. Confused. As you enter the world of Scarlett, Noah, Jamie, Isabelle, and Rachel, remember they are humans too.
