SARAH - Life Turned Her That Way
A Folk-Opera of Song, Story and Survival - Born on the Kent coast in 1801, Sarah Birchâs life was shaped by seduction, abandonment and loss. Taken to Ireland as a girl and cast into poverty, she rose - against all odds - to wealth and power, becoming mistress of vast estates during one of the darkest periods in Irish history.
Feared as a landlord, hardened by circumstance, and driven by an unyielding will to survive, Sarah Kelly became both product and prisoner of her time. Her life ended violently on her own land in 1856âbut her story did not end there.
Told through traditional ballads, original songs, narration, drama and movement, this compelling folk-opera explores a true Anglo-Irish life lived between ambition and consequence, mercy and crueltyâasking whether Sarah was villain, victim, or something far more complex.
