Harmonic ensemble is Isol 's third solo exhibition at Galería Mar Dulce and presents a series of works that combine photography and drawing. They are part of a series of special projects, separate from Isol's children's books. They are all limited editions giclée prints.
" All the images in this exhibition have one thing in common: each features a real object, with its volume, shadow, texture and colour. On beginning these works, I didn't have to face a blank sheet of paper: they arose from objects found around my home, in my walks through the countryside, among the things I needed to tidy up, or in the neighbourhood shops...
Most of the time, I found these treasures by engaging in a kind of creative archaeology: I searched for objects related to the text I was illustrating, then brought the objects together with drawings or placed them in spatial contexts, photographing them in the hope they might gift me new ideas. Other discoveries arose from taking photos of objects in nature that I found wonderful and that - combined with the afternoon light - in turn created new images.
By now, I am a collector of photographs of the curious things that I find. Many of these are remnants that might not appear valuable to other people - a feather, leaves, stones, broken flowers, old toys, a tap - but I love to look at them in detail and to marvel at them. I often use this technique of stepping away from the everyday and what I think I know, to see the world anew, reconsider it, feel it again, love it and draw it.
I feel that there are many possible stories hidden inside of things, like genies in bottles, just waiting for someone to see their magical potential. Perhaps the encounter with a literary text or with a curious gaze becomes the spark to light them within a new harmony, and thus let them begin to sing." Isol 2025
