Why is it called the Worm Moon?
As you may well have heard, March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.
Meaning: It’s the universal shift to spring! Woohoo! This is, according to Space.com, also the month that the ground softens and earthworms reemerge. In the 1700s, Jonathan Carver wrote that this moon actually refers to the larvae that come out of the bark of trees and other winter hiding spots, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac.
What else is it called? Other names for the March moon include the Eagle Moon, Goose Moon, Snow Crust Moon, Sugar Moon, and Wind Strong Moon.
