Brooke Wyeth returns home to Palm Springs after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas with her parents, her brother, and her aunt. Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir dredging up a pivotal and tragic event in the family’s history—a wound they don’t want reopened. In effect, she draws a line in the sand and dares them all to cross it.
Characters:
Polly Wyeth: (Female 50-70’s) The elegant, acerbic, and fiercely conservative matriarch, devoted to her family and Republican ideals, but hiding painful secrets about her son.
Lyman Wyeth: (Male 50-70’s) A charming former B-actor and Reagan-era ambassador, sturdy and traditional, trying to balance his conservative views with paternal love.
Brooke Wyeth: (Female 20’s-30’s) The intellectual, liberal daughter, a writer recovering from a breakdown, whose memoir threatens to expose the family's past.
Trip Wyeth: (Male 20-30’s) The witty, self-deprecating younger brother, a reality TV producer who tries to mediate but gets caught in the conflict.
Silda Grauman: (Female 50-70’s) Polly's sharp-tongued, recovering alcoholic sister and former writing partner, who encourages Brooke's memoir, holding keys to the family's history.
No previous experience necessary!
Auditions consist of cold reading from the script.
