At the top of Abbey Ponds, just before the gate into Durslade Community Garden, you may have walked past two grassy banks, without knowing their stories – these are 'Butterfly Bunds'
The upper is chalk, and the lower local oolitic limestone; both providing small patches of calcareous grassland to encourage wildflowers, and the pollinators that feed upon their nectar.
On Saturday morning, 21 February, local ecologist Angus Davies will be leading the annual cut and rake of these bunds.
We need 4/5 volunteers to help – and, if another 3 or so are available, we will combine with a bit of hedge laying as well.
Please bring hand tools, dress appropriately for the weather, and a wheelbarrow would also be helpful.
Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday 21st!
