Hello wunderbars! OMFI one moment free impro is glad to welcome you on the 22 October 2025 in the Chapelle du Grand Hospice hosting some best improvisers :::::
/ YOKO MIURA / piano
Lives in Fukuoka, on the island of Kyūshū, southern Japan.
For about twenty years, Yoko Miura has been giving annual European tours, performing in France, Great Britain, Finland, Italy, Austria, Germany, Sweden, and Belgium. Indeed, women musicians in Japan are largely disadvantaged when it comes to being able to express their art. Nevertheless, she has strived to organize concerts with a few devoted friends in Tokyo and Fukuoka.
Her intimate and refined music is based on polymodal structures in which different scales interpenetrate with beautiful precision and unfold over shifting cadences, leading to shimmering improvisations. Her style is instantly recognizable—her playing is truly original and adapts curiously to various contexts. Over the years, she has collaborated and recorded with numerous distinguished musicians across Europe.
Among her colleagues are the legendary Finnish double bassist and composer Teppo Hauta-Aho, percussionist Janne Tuomi, Italian saxophonist Gianni Mimmo, German clarinetist and saxophonist Ove Volquartz, Austrian violinist Mia Zabelka, “signal processing” pioneer Lawrence Casserley, Belgian vocalist Jean-Michel Van Schouwburg, and percussionists Thierry Waziniak and Charlie Collins.
She has recorded for the labels Setola di Maiale, FMR, Creative Sources, Amirani, and Intermusic.
/ MIKE GOYVAERTS / percussion
Mike Goyvaerts, born in 1950, has been active as a drummer on the Belgian music scene since his teenage years in the late 1960s and 1970s, playing in local rock and blues bands. Later, he moved toward avant-garde jazz tinged with rock, eventually becoming part of the free-music movement and the legendary W.I.M. association of improvising musicians (Fred Van Hove, André Goudbeek, the GAM trio, Ronnie Dusoir, Peter Jacquemyn), of which he was a member for two decades.
He has performed alongside numerous improvisers from both the Belgian and international scenes. Mike took part in the Inaudible collective project and collaborated with Tony Oxley in a memorable concert at the ULB, contributing to the development of a remarkable form of radical improvised music within Canaries on the Pole, alongside saxophonist Georg Wissel, clarinetist Jacques Foschia, and violinist Christoph Irmer.
The Canaries is a unique group, known for the multifaceted nature of their interactions and their refined sense of balance between individual contributions, purity of movement, contrast, and subtle detail. They have released three remarkable CDs and performed extensively in Belgium and Germany.
Mike Goyvaerts built his own drum set in a truly original way: a horizontally placed bass drum resting on stands, surrounded by various percussive objects (scrapers, metals, springs, tubes, two or three cymbals, woodblocks, and everyday objects repurposed for sound). His playing style is economical in gesture, and his curious, unconventional interventions align precisely and sensitively with those of his fellow musicians.
He has also performed and recorded solo and in a trio with J.J. Duerinckx and Willy Van Buggenhout. Throughout his career as an improviser, he has sought to play and engage musically with an ever-growing number of improvisers, constantly striving to explore and refine his practice and understanding.
The list of his collaborators is endless. His deep experience in creative improvisation and percussion makes Mike Goyvaerts a remarkable improviser, capable of engaging in fruitful dialogue across a wide range of aesthetic and emotional worlds.
