Beach Bunny est le projet musical lancé en 2015 par l’auteure-compositrice et interprète Lili Trifilio. La native de Chicago délivre une musique qui oscille entre indie rock, pop punk et garage rock. Le groupe décolle réellement en 2018 grâce à sa chanson « Prom Queen » reprise sur TikTok, où Lili Trifilio, la chanteuse, s’attaque avec véhémence aux diktats de la beauté dans nos sociétés occidentales. Remarquable pour sa voix punchy, quasi vengeresse et ses paroles percutantes, la jeune artiste s’inspire notamment de Marina Diamandis dans l’écriture de ses chansons.
Après un premier album Honeymoon sorti en 2020, cité parmi les meilleurs albums de l’année par The New York Times et Rolling Stone, Beach Bunny nous concocte un second opus Emotional Creatures autour de thématiques qui touchent à la vulnérabilité, à l’anxiété et aux relations amoureuses, le tout sur fond de mélodies pop punk. Le groupe revient aujourd'hui avec Big Pink Bubble, un nouvel EP qui confirme l'étendue de son talent.

Op ‘Tunnel Vision’, dat dit jaar verschijnt, gaat Beach Bunny terug naar de basis: dringende, op gitaar gebaseerde indierock met pop melodieën. ‘Just Around the Corner’, dat door het album heen geweven is, echoot dynamische nineties indierock met dank aan fuzzed-out gitaren en beukende drums, terwijl slashing riffs en preciseritmes het melodieuze ‘Big Pink Bubble’ voortstuwen. ‘Violence’ schommelt tussen een refrein voortgestuwd door gonzende gitaren en Trifilio’s smekende zang en een opzwepende chorus hook; ‘Chasm’ is stuwende punk-pop; en het levendige titelnummer is een pogo-waardig rock anthem.
Tot nu toe heeft deze aanpak gewerkt voor de band. Ze scoorden er al virale hits mee zoals ‘PromQueen’, ‘Cloud 9’ en ‘Sports’ op zijn naam staan en heeft alleen al op Spotify meer dan een miljard streams verdiend, net als talloze vermeldingen op best-of lijstjes van verschillende belangrijke critici.
