About this Event

Planning a renovation or managing a small building project? This practical short course is your fast track to understanding construction plans and safety essentials, without committing to formal trade training.

Delivered flexibly through a combination of self-paced online learning and face-to-face sessions, this course helps you build confidence in reading and interpreting building plans, understanding symbols and layouts, and applying key safety principles. You’ll explore how to identify risks, follow current Work, Health and Safety (WHS) legislation, and translate 2D drawings into real-world spaces.

Whether you're a homeowner, DIY enthusiast or simply curious about how buildings come together, this course will equip you with practical knowledge to support your next project. No tools or trade experience required.





Eligibility and entry requirements

To enrol in this course, you must be aged 17 years or older, and be one of the following: 

  • an Australian citizen or permanent resident 
  • a New Zealand citizen 
  • the holder of a permanent humanitarian visa 
  • an eligible temporary visa holder as defined in the CIT Admission and Enrolment Policy.   




Delivery mode
  • Hybrid course delivered on-campus and online over 2 weeks (2 evening classes, plus 3 hours online learning)
