Joey Poteete Benefit

June 2021, Joey was diagnosed with myasthenia Gravis, an autoimmune disorder that affects muscles. He immediately began treatments without complications until January 2025 at which time severe symptoms appeared.. On April 1, 2025 Joey was taken to Baptist (Oxford) ER when he quickly transferred to Baptist East(Memphis)ICU due to critical symptoms affecting his lungs.. He was transferred to ICU stepdown after two days and kept for weeks to receive additional treatments.. after one week at home he returned another week in ICU stepdown Oxford for further treatment due to his quick declining status. He was sent home where he was able to return to work while receiving intense IV treatments at home. These treatments also were in affective and his condition began to become worse again. In August 2025 he was admitted to St Dominic Jackson ms where a new care team could evaluate and treat. For two weeks he underwent a new treatment that included a dialysis port placement through which they drained his plasma, cleaned it and returned it. Discharged home with a plan to return to meds previously taken that worked. One week later later he was back at St Dominic once again requiring ICU then stepdown level care.. Today Joey is home with gmg (Generalized myasthenia gravis) with varying symptoms that are at times debilitating . Some symptoms include little to no use of either hand except index finger and thumbs, severe difficulties with eating, vision problems including eye control and breathing difficulties. This condition affects any/every muscle in the body. This is rare condition affecting 20 out of every 100,000 people worldwide. Treatments are limited. Joey had been referred to Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville Florida. Cindy has been and continues to be at his side and plans to travel with him if accepted. This has caused and will cause her to miss work as well. They ask above all that you remember them in prayers for the journey ahead…
