Join Detroit Bird Alliance expert and eagle-eyed leaders Jim Bull and Bruce Szczechowski at Lake Erie Metropark looking for birds winging their way south to their winter homes. Lake Erie Metopark is one of the best places for hawk migration in North America if the winds are right. We will be looking for fall migrants including warblers, hawks, ducks, herons, and other marsh birds, and often hundreds of both kinds of kinglets. And its just a great time to get out to enjoy the fall colors.
Meeting Location: Lake Erie Metropark Marshlands Musuem
From the Marshlands Musuem we will hike about a 1 mile nature trail through woodlands, boardwalks, and observation platforms looking for warblers, other songbirds and migrating water birds. We will also go down to the boat launch to observe the hawk migration for a while. Some years the number of hawks can be spectacular! In addition, the group may hike the 1.25 mile Cherry Island Trail that traverses a coastal marsh and the Lake Erie/Detroit River shoreline.
