About the event

Heritage Open Days at Tardebigge
The Worcester Birmingham and Droitwich Canals Worcester-Birmingham & Droitwich Canals Society
Heritage Open Weekend at Tardebigge.
HERITAGE OPEN WEEKEND 20th/21st September.

Guided Local History Walk: Tardebigge Wharf, Church Lane, Tardebigge, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, B60 3AH
Pre-booking not required.
The Worcester-Birmingham & Droitwich Canals Society welcomes you to come along for a guided walk around the top lock section of the Tardebigge canal flight. A true example of form to function where 200 years ago Architecture and Design meant time and money.
Volunteer guides will provide a snapshot of canal building endeavours and explain the aims of water management from the summit of the longest narrow lock flight in Britain.

Timings for guided tours (free):
Saturday 20 September: 10:00, 11:30, 13:00 & 14:30.
Sunday 21 September: 10:00, 11:30, 13:00 & 14:30.

The story of the Wharf and the surrounding landscape is placed into context visiting the current wharf and sites of past quays, quarries, rail tracks, lime kilns and the site of the experimental boat lift which today is replaced with a double depth lock and has recently been the site of a major repair and conservation project.
Local guides from the Worcester Birmingham Droitwich Canals Society and Canal and Rivers Trust will describe how the Tardebigge section of the Worcester and Birmingham canal came to life including the age of steam and through to the establishment of the Inland Waterways Association. Directions are given for visitors to continue their walk along the flight to the Tardebigge reservoir and site of the steam pumping house.

Charity narrowboat 'Cecilia' will also be on hand for trips through Tardebigge tunnel and back (charges apply).
These boat trips are available throughout the two days at:
Saturday 20 September: 10:30, 12:00, 13:30 & 15:00.
Sunday 21 September: 10:30, 12:00, 13:30 & 15:00.
