What is Whirling Drum Meditation

“Whirling Drum Meditation” is a form of dynamic meditation that quiets the incessant mind through intense concentration and physical control.

Created by Drumming artist Kissii, Lee from Hong Kong @ kissiiandojo : Its concept is inspired from Sufi whirling meditation, where the meditator uses a minimalist steady rhythm, repetitively cycling between revolution (the meditator revolves around the drum) and rotation (the meditator spins on their own axis) to strike the drum. This movement mirrors the relationship between the Earth and the Sun. Throughout the process, music with a clear rhythm serves as the backdrop, providing both atmosphere and tempo constraints.

“Whirling Drum Meditation” lasts about 30 minutes without interruption, followed by 15 to 30 minutes of silent stillness.

True meditation allows everything to be as it is—without direction, goals, or methods. However, whirling drum meditation introduces a conscious focus—with direction, goals, and methods—creating a paradox.
