MARACATU BRISTOL – AN AFTERNOON WITH THE MASTERS!
On Sunday 7th September, Bristol will be pulsing to the heartbeat of Maracatu de Baque Virado! Samba's earthier cousin, Maracatu, developed in Afro-Indigenous communities in the Northeast of Brazil over 200 years ago and has survived as a symbol of resistance to this day.
We are honoured to welcome Seu Toinho – the oldest living mestre of maracatu – and Jamesson, director of Maracatu Baque Forte (Recife, Brazil).
This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to:
Learn from true masters of the tradition
Feel the power of the drum, song, and dance
Connect to the roots of Afro-Brazilian culture
Everyone is welcome – whether you’re an experienced drummer or have never picked up a stick before. Bring your friends, your family, your curiosity, and your energy!
Date: Sat 7th September
Location: Glenfrome Primary School,
✨ Don’t miss this! Mark your calendar & spread the word!
Let’s make the ground tremble! ❤️
